Google is taking on Apple Watch with two new SmartWatch products scheduled for release in Q1 2017. In an exclusive interview with Verge, Jeff Chang (Product Manager, Android Wear at Google) confirmed that these would be the flagship for the next season.

Several rumors appeared in the Verge earlier in December and are officially confirmed (Source: Tech Crunch).

As soon as the two flagship models launch, Android Wear 2.0 will be released to other Android Wear-based smartwatches. The Software will feature support for standalone apps, Google Assistant, Android Pay and much more.
The new models will be stripped of Pixel or Google branding and will feature manufacturer branding much like with Nexus 6 models (smartphone).
So far, Samsung has been the only real competitor to Apple in this growing market. Google spent last two and a half years trying to get into smartwatch market with not so great results.
