Along with the motherboard, you’re also getting a rear IO shield, two SATA cables, as well as the usual documentation. Next up is another Am4 model from MSI, supporting the Ryzen series processors as well as the DDR4-3200+ memory. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not worth considering for purchase – this is a great-looking motherboard, working fast and coming with loads of features, just like we’re used to from MSI. But let’s take a closer look together, and see is it worth the money:

As we said in the intro, the primary purpose of this inexpensive motherboard is to allow you to finally use a processor from AMD’s new Ryzen line – everybody is talking about them, and for a reason. They come with extra cores and make everything a lot faster, and could be of crucial importance to gaming enthusiasts. The model, of course, also supports the 7th generation Athlon/A-series processors, if you’re not interested into Ryzen models yet.

The chipset supports DDR4 memory (32Gbs is the maximum), and comes with an interesting “Boost” feature, allowing the user to give the memory a significant performance boost. There are one PCI-Ex16 slot and two PCI-Ex1 slots, as well as some necessary USB ports (3.1, 2.0). The video outputs featured here are DVI-D, HDMI, and VGA, which will allow users with older monitors to use this chipset without any worries.

There’s also the Audio Boost feature that creates a great gaming experience with a low latency and a good bandwidth management – and this deserves some special praise. We also liked the ability to synchronize the LEDs with your other RGB solutions, as well as the BIOS which looks and works great. Selling it a price point of around £100/$130, the ASRock intended for their AB350 GAMING K4 motherboard to be a model for the budget gamers who don’t really need a multi-GPU capability. It comes with a several really attractive features, such as the RGB LED capability, the 6+3 phase power delivery system, and the dual M.2 ports. Even though it’s quite inexpensive, it retains a great number of these features that are usually associated with the high-end models – and that’s exactly why it deserves a more in-depth look.

The chipset comes in a glossy box that combines the red with black and includes a basic IO shield and two SATA cables. There’s also the necessary documentation, as well as the case sticker. The motherboard itself comes in black and red color scheme, just like the other products of the Fatal1ty range, and uses steel plating to reinforce the main PCIe slot. Beneath the model’s heatsink is the LED lighting (red) that you can control via the OS software.

This motherboard faces tough competition from the Tomahawk model (MSI), but it’s still a great, inexpensive option that offers easy installation and good performance.

When it comes ASUS’ ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand, the new ASUS Crosshair VI Hero is the flagship for the AMD’s brand new AM4 platform. It features an X370 chipset, a great-looking RGB lighting, internal USB 3.1 header, an onboard M.2, as well as a good power system that will power your new Ryzen CPU. All in all, this motherboard shows good performance, and that’s necessary if you’d like some space for your new Ryzen processor to flex its muscles. It also has a good design, a well-cooled power system, and straightforward software. It’s worth the money!

This is where we come to famous Gigabyte – it is their turn to show what their AM4 motherboard can deliver. As the name suggests, this model has been manufactured with gaming in mind, supporting high-end GPUs as well as the new, powerful Ryzen processors from AMD. It also adds some very useful features, like the Realtek ALC1220 audio, 10Gbps USB 3.1, and the powerful RGB LED capability. Gigabyte advertises this chipset as an excellent choice for gamers – but is it really so? Let’s find out the answer together!

Gigabyte has been pretty generous here and certainly deserves some special praise.

The black and red motherboard has four DIMM slots, which will allow you to use up to 64GB of the fast DDR4 memory. The manufacturer claims that the frequency support stands at 3200MHz, but that’s possible only if your memory kit gets into a good relation with Ryzen. The CPUs installed into this model will be fed by the 4+3 phase solution, which is comparable to MSI’s Tomahawk, and that’s one of this model’s main competitors. There are three PCIe slots here (all of them full-length), but the SLI is not supported (CrossFire is, but it would be crippled by the 2.0 x4 bandwidth of the second card).

GIGABYTE GA-AB350-Gaming has six 6Gbps SATA ports, with four of them being operated by the model itself and allowing you to use them at all times. The audio solution is based on Realtek’s ALC1220 codec, which is definitely something we didn’t expect to see in this price segment. The UEFI that comes with the chipset is almost identical to that of the other products in the range, but there are still some subtle differences (like the Easy Mode page).

In our opinion, this is a well-designed model that targets gaming enthusiasts with an appetite for handy features. It’s an excellent gaming motherboard, and one we would heartily recommend.

This is one of the latest AMD-branded motherboards manufactured by MSI, and it definitely deserves a more in-depth look. It tries to tick all the boxes for the price that it comes at, with the SLI designation being one of its main selling points. Of course, there are a number of other, advantageous features that make this chipset worth considering for purchase. MSI rarely fails when it comes to motherboards – let’s see if the ATX DDR4 AM4 AMD X370 is something that’s bound to become popular!

It’s quite easy to find a gaming-oriented model that will be littered with all kinds of lights and heatsinks, but it’s tough to find one that looks highly professional. And that’s exactly what the ATX DDR4 AM4 AMD X370 is – it comes in black color and is accented by metal parts that are arranged in angular sections. This business-like design looks very attractive, and it’s a huge plus in our book.

The model supports DDR4 memory (3200MHz) and comes with trios of x1 and x16 PCI-Express slots. They support two-way SLI or three-way CrossFire, which is a standard for the mid-range motherboards in this day and age. There’s also a single M.2 slot, as well as six SATA connectors. We liked the presence of six fan headers that are scattered around the model, with one of them made for the water pumps. Fortunately, the heatsinks are small enough, and they don’t interfere with the coolers, but we weren’t pleased with the lack of lighting. There are no LEDs here – there are just some red lights that are present on the board’s back.

All of this means that the Gaming Pro Carbon is among the pricier models, and we have decided to check out how it performs and if the price tag is justified. It’s already among the most popular AM4 motherboards – let’s give it a look!

When it comes to design, the X370 looks striking – the heatsinks, the carbon-fiber PCB, and the IO shroud give this motherboard a dark look, one that looks very elegant and professional. This creates a great contrast with the shiny steel slots and the RGB LEDs, and we’re pretty sure that there’s not a gamer who won’t like this look.

This steel shielding that we’ve mentioned is used to house big graphics cards and can be found around both of the main PCI-Express slots. Many boards will shield only the primary slot, and we’re glad that the MSI decided to do it differently. When it comes to RAM, the Gaming Pro Carbon can anchor DDR4 memory up to the capacity of 64GB, with the peak speed standing at 3200MHz. Important Things to Consider

•    A320 motherboards

These are basic, no-frills models, which are intended for the budget systems. They support up to six USB 2.0 ports, a pair of USB 3.1. ports (gen-1), and one 10Gbps 3.1 Port (gen-2). They also support four PCI-e lanes for the additional devices and a pair of SATA Express or SATA III connections.

Unfortunately, these AM4 motherboards don’t support overclocking. If you’re a gaming enthusiast who likes to squeeze out all the power from his PC components, an A320 motherboard isn’t your best choice.

•    B350 motherboards

In our opinion, the B350 motherboards present a sweet spot for the gaming enthusiasts who like to stick to their traditional one-GPU setups. Unlike with the A320 boards, you can engage in overclocking business here – it is unlocked from the start. These motherboards add two more PCI-Express lanes and an additional USB 3.1 port (10Gbps) when compared to A320 models.

The downside here is the fact that the multi-GPU setups aren’t supported. If you can’t imagine gaming without CrossFire or SLI – you’ll have to look somewhere else.

•    X370 motherboards

When compared to B350 models, the X370 boards adds double the SATA III connections, four more USB Gen-1 ports (5Gbps), two additional PCI-Express lanes, as well as slots that have the capability to support SLI and CrossFire. If you’d like to load your computer with all the newest technologies, purchasing one of X370 motherboards is the wisest decision.
