When it comes to one’s working or personal interface, it’s safe to say that having two monitors is almost always better than having just one. It helps you to compare, contrast, and visualize everything that you are currently working on.
But not all of the work can be done on your desktop – sometimes, you just have to be mobile. You will have to use a laptop, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to use dual monitors anymore.
Today, we’ll be taking a look at the highest rated portable monitors that come with an HDMI port, which allows you to digitally transfer audio and video from your device and thus provide you with the best visual experience. Read on!
Top 3 Portable HDMI Monitors Reviewed
- Comes with all the necessary ports and cables
- Full HD IPS screen
- Tweaking the image quality is easy
- Quality plastic cover included
- No input lag
For those wishing to extend their notebook’s multi-tasking abilities, the GeChic 1503H is a great choice – it’s an elegant piece of hardware that looks and works just as advertised. But let’s take a closer look at it, and see if it’s really worth the money:
This portable monitor comes with curved edges and black plastic bezels and weighs a bit more than we have expected – 798g. With this weight and with the 15.6″ size of its screen, you might find putting it into some bags a struggle, but we can’t really take this as a major flaw.
The built-in connectors of this model include two mini-HDMI ports, a 3.5mm headset jack, and the USB-C port. There’s also an additional port that you can use for the optional docking station. In the box, you will be getting a bundle of cables – like the USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, HDMI to mini-HDMI cable, Velcro cable ties, and other accessories.
You will also be getting a very nice plastic cover, which can protect the monitor and act as a stand. It will allow you to place the device in three different positions. The stand’s foot is grippy enough, which means that the model will maintain a pretty decent hold on most kinds of surfaces.
The on-screen menus of this portable monitor offer a pretty good amount of depth – you will be able to tweak the color, contrast, and brightness settings as you wish.
The Full HD IPS screen provides an excellent image quality, which is something we’ve expected from a product made by this famous Taiwanese company. Everything looks thoroughly impressive, and the viewing angles are superb.
Thankfully, the screen does not suffer any sort of an input lag, which is a common problem with cheaper portable monitors. This makes the GeChic 1503H an excellent choice for the gamers on the move, as well as for the people who like watching movies or TV shows when they’re on an airplane.
Even though it’s quite pricey and not completely flawless, this portable monitor offers excellent value for the money. Like many other secondary screens made by GeChic, it provides the user with a solid construction, great image quality, and the necessary accessories – we recommend it!
- Sleek design
- Very easy to use (Plug & Play)
- Full HD resolution on an IPS display
- Lightweight and portable
- Excellent image quality
GeChic’s 2501C was one of the company’s best-selling models, as it was portable, lightweight, and has provided a pretty decent visual experience, even though it didn’t have Full HD resolution. An upgraded model is finally here – it’s called GeChic 2501H and puts the 1920 x 1080 resolution into the game. Let’s check out its features!
When it comes to the design, we’ve got no special complaints. The 2501H looks very similar to its predecessor, sporting a stylish matt-black body and looking very sleek. It weighs 1.72lbs, with weight increasing to 2.28lbs once you put it into its protective cover. The inputs are located on the right side – VGA, HDMI, and DC power, as well as the buttons for power, menu, color, and volume. The ports will allow you to connect this monitor to devices such as laptops, gaming consoles, tablets, smartphones, notebooks, DSLRs, and even to Raspberry Pi. The speakers are located on the back of the device.
Unlike the 2501C, this model comes with an IPS panel. We tested it by reading texts, watching movies, and playing video games, and we were quite pleased with the results. There are no problems with black letters on the white background while reading – the fonts are crisp and clearly visible. Watching movies is another great experience on 2501H, with vibrant and accurate colors, and the same could be said for gaming. The 1920 x 1080 resolution makes films and games come alive, with deep blacks and impressive, popping colors.
Along with the portable monitor itself, you will also be getting a protective cover stand, a charger, and the USB and HDMI cables. The monitor requires only the USB cable for both the input and power, but you can, of course, use the HDMI connection if you want a superb image quality. The included black cover gives a decent protection against dust and can be utilized as a stand when needed.
In our opinion, the GeChic 2501H brings some significant improvements when compared to its ancestor. While the 2501C was a great model, this newest revision takes everything one step further and provides the user with an outstanding viewing experience in the 1080p resolution. If you’re after a model for watching videos or using creative applications such as photo-editing programs, the GeChic 2501H is an excellent choice.
- 10″ screen size
- HD resolution – crisp image
- Dedicated USB port
- Easy-to-operate controls
- Useful accessories in the bundle
Eyeyo is a company that specializes in things such as barcode scanners, pipe-inspection tools, fish finder cameras, and, of course, portable monitors. We’ve decided to take a closer look at their 10″ model, which comes at a reasonable price and sports some pretty useful features.
The design of this portable monitor is straightforward, yet functional enough. The 10″ screen is surrounded by a thick plastic bezel which has a big Eyoyo logo below the screen. There are also some simple-to-operate button controls here (power, menu, and the signal source switcher) as well as the LED indicator. On the back of the device, we’ll find a set of ports – AV, VGA, HDMI, and BNC, as well as the USB and microphone/headphone ports. The monitor feels quite sturdy in hands, although we have to admit that we’ve seen better ones.
The screen itself measures 10″ and has the resolution of 1280 x 800 (non-standard HD resolution). During our testing period, we’ve tried to read texts, watch movies, and play video games on it, and we found that the image quality is a lot better than we’ve initially expected. Everything was quite colorful, and we have to give some special praise to the wide viewing angles – they’re just superb. We should also mention that the screen supports chromatic YPbPr input.
Like we already mentioned, the Eyoyo 10″ has a USB port on its rear side. This allows greater multimedia flexibility, as you will be able to easily connect a USB stick with your favorite movies or TV shows on it. Just like other products of this kind, the Eyoyo 10″ can also be used for the CCTV system or as a rear view camera monitor. Along with the monitor itself, you will also be getting a remote controller, a functional monitor stand, a power adapter, the user’s manual, as well as the VGA and BNC cables.
All in all, the Eyoyo 10″ is a pretty decent solution for those looking for an affordable secondary screen. It comes with an HDMI port (but not with the appropriate cable for it, unfortunately) and an HD display, which is more than we could ask for at this price. It’s a product worth considering for purchase.
Advantages of Using an HDMI Cable
The HDMI technology would be the global standard when it comes to connecting the high-definition devices with one another. It’s an all-digital interface that’s capable of delivering both outstanding image quality and the impressive ease of use. Right now, there are more than 1,600 of the planet’s largest computer hardware companies that incorporate the HDMI connectivity into their devices, and this number is constantly on the rise. But even with this standard’s rise in popularity, there are still people who know next to nothing about its advantages. If you’re among them, read on and find out!
The HDMI standard can enable the loss-less transmission, resulting in videos of better quality, with higher resolutions and low-brightness scenes. The video quality can be a lot better than on the analog counterparts since there’s no conversion involved here. Details with high contrast, like for example texts, will be much sharper and much easier to see.
Encryption and Authentication
One of the best features of this standard is the fact that it supports authentication which will ensure that all connected devices receive the necessary content which is sent by an HDMI-enabled source. The encryption, on the other hand, makes sure that nobody can tap into cables to pirate the content that’s flowing through them.
HDMI interface enables two-way communication between the video sources, and this, in turn, enables the automatic configuration. This minimizes the need for an external intervention that will identify the best audio formats and resolutions. The actual thing that accomplishes this is the EDID (Extended Display Identification Data).
Unlike some older cables, the HDMI cable carries everything – video, audio, and the control information. This creates less clutter and makes things a lot more convenient and easier.
The HDMI standard allows the digital signals to be transmitted, stored, and viewed without any changes from the original. There’s no need for any kind of conversion, which results in the removal of the signal degradation. In simple words, HDMI cables are better for transmitting HD content.
During this transmission that we’ve mentioned, the HD signals won’t be compressed in any way. Once again, this means that there will be no degradation in video/audio quality.
Unlike the older standards, the HDMI supports 16-bit, 12-bit, and 10-bit color depths. This, in turn, allows it to render over a billion colors in excellent detail.
Supports various video and audio formats
HDMI standard supports multiple video and audio formats, like the multi-channel surround sound, standard stereo, 720p, 1080p, PAL, NTSC, and others.
CEC, or the Consumer Electronics Control, would be a communication link which allows the devices (linked with HDMI) to communicate with each other. If you connect multiple DVD players to your TV, the CEC will allow them to know that only one of them can play at a time, for example.
As you can see, HDMI is the future. If you’re looking to buy a high-quality portable monitor, you should definitely get one with an HDMI port – with it, your pictures, images, and games will be much more pleasant for the eyes!
Portable monitors with HDMI ports are a must-have for all those who want quality-looking media content on the go. If you, for example, own a laptop with an HD screen and have a portable monitor without an HDMI outlet, the image quality on this secondary screen will be significantly degraded. Your windows and apps will look completely different on the mobile screen, which will surely have an adverse effect on your concentration while working. The same could be said for the movies and games – if you’re transmitting them through an HDMI cable, they will look far better and more pleasant for the eye.
